Summary of Sermon
After recently celebrating the 50th anniversary of our church parish, Fr. Christopher discusses looking forward to the 100th anniversary of the parish. He introduces a fall series focused on the Book of Hebrews, emphasizing its relevance to being a second-generation church.
- Purpose of Studying Hebrews: The Book of Hebrews is chosen for its rich content that parallels the parish's journey and challenges, offering encouragement and reflection on our faith journey.
- Encouragement from Hebrews: The author of Hebrews urges believers to bear with the Word of God with exhortation and reflects on the rich testimonies and experiences of the parish over the decades.
- Second-Generation Church: The Book of Hebrews is relevant to a second-generation church, addressing our history, challenges, and the need to move forward with God.
- God's Continued Guidance: The central message is that God has not brought the parish this far, only to bring us this far, emphasizing the need for courage to share the gospel with the next generation.
- Rich Testimonies and Trials: The parish has experienced significant testimonies and trials, reflecting on our endurance and fidelity through challenges and the importance of remembering our past.
- Future-Focused Testimonies: Testimonies should be future-focused, showing confidence in God's continued guidance and encouraging others to join the faith journey. Your testimony is three steps, not two steps. Most people think of their testimony as "This is where I was (Step 1), and here is where I am now (Step 2)". We should not stop at Step 2. We should also think and proclaim where we go as our Step 3. God did not bring you this far to stop here. He wants you and our church to look forward to the point where He is leading us to go.
He did not bring you this far, only to bring you this far.
